Discover Serendipity Restaurant

Tucked along the sun-warmed stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway, Serendipity Restaurant at 1814 S Pacific Coast Hwy, Redondo Beach, CA 90277, United States, feels like that rare discovery you want to keep secret but can’t help telling everyone about. The moment you step through the doors, the scent of freshly baked bread and seared seafood pulls you right in. The place blends coastal charm with a modern, laid-back vibe-perfect for brunch with friends, a romantic evening, or simply an excuse to indulge in comfort food with a twist.

The first time I visited, it wasn’t even planned. A friend and I were driving back from the beach when hunger struck, and we spotted the inviting glow from Serendipity’s sign. Inside, the cozy wooden tables, gentle hum of conversation, and open kitchen made it instantly feel like home. The staff welcomed us with genuine smiles, something that immediately set the tone for the entire experience. Their attentiveness reminded me why good service can transform a meal into a memory.

The menu reads like a love letter to California cuisine. Local ingredients shine, from crisp salads layered with farmers’ market greens to fish tacos that balance tangy lime crema with the perfect crunch. One standout dish was the “Pacific Coast Benedict,” a creative take on the classic-grilled sourdough topped with crab cakes, poached eggs, and a lemony hollandaise that’s worth every calorie. For those who lean toward comfort food, the “Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich” is an absolute showstopper, paired with hand-cut fries dusted in rosemary salt.

According to the California Restaurant Association, diners increasingly seek out places that prioritize locally sourced ingredients and sustainability, and Serendipity is clearly part of that movement. Their commitment to fresh, seasonal produce is not just a trend-it’s a philosophy. You can taste it in dishes that change with the seasons and even in their beverages, like the house-made lemonade infused with lavender or the rotating selection of California craft beers.

Professionally speaking, I’ve reviewed many restaurants across Los Angeles County, but Serendipity stands out for its balance between sophistication and accessibility. It’s rare to find a place that treats both casual diners and food connoisseurs with equal care. The kitchen staff’s precision in plating and timing shows training and experience. Every dish arrives at the table warm, beautifully presented, and consistent in quality-a feat not every busy coastal diner manages.

I spoke briefly with the manager during my last visit, who mentioned that much of their produce comes from local Redondo Beach and Torrance farms. This partnership not only supports local growers but also ensures the ingredients never travel far before hitting the plate. Research by the University of California’s Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources highlights how shorter supply chains enhance freshness and nutrient retention, a principle Serendipity practices daily.

Reviews from other guests echo similar sentiments. Many mention how the restaurant feels welcoming to families and solo diners alike. One reviewer described it as “the kind of place that restores your faith in local dining.” Another praised the weekend brunch crowd for its friendly energy-locals chatting over avocado toast, cyclists refueling after a ride, and visitors lingering long after dessert.

On weekends, the line outside can stretch onto the sidewalk, but that’s part of the charm. Locals know to grab a table early or call ahead. The staff keeps the wait pleasant with samples of freshly brewed coffee, and the ocean breeze from nearby Redondo Beach makes the wait almost enjoyable.

Every visit feels like discovering something new, from the seasonal menu additions to the subtle changes in decor. That’s the beauty of Serendipity-it evolves without losing its soul. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, the experience remains consistently delightful. There’s a warmth in the way the team operates, a quiet pride in their craft, and a clear understanding that dining isn’t just about eating-it’s about connection, community, and those small, serendipitous moments that make you smile long after you’ve left.

  • Found out about this place from my brother (an unofficial self-proclaimed official foodie). Saw the Google reviews (4.6 at the time) and figured it's worth trying. Visited today for lunch (12/2/24 @ 12:30p) Enter the parking lot on *Vista Del Parque* and it's literally right outside the lot. PARKING IS FREE! The place is a lot bigger than I expected! Decor is simple yet contemporary. Gabriel was our server and he was FANTASTIC! Knowledgeable... funny... attractive... AND makes a great Old Fashioned! What else do you need!? Food was great! Had a strawberry cheesecake crepe (not sure the official name on the menu). The strawberries were fresh and the filling was just the right amount of sweet. My friend had the cheeseburger omelet and I ordered the chilaquiles, with chicken added cuz I need meat somewhere in ALL my dishes! The chilaquiles came with home style potatoes which was a pleasant surprise to me. They were not saucy as I've had other chilaquiles but the flavor was so good and it was a great portion size. I don't too much like eggs and I hate mustard but still the cheeseburger omelet was good too (I only had one bite but my friend loved it!). And the omelet came with a side choice of potatoes or pancakes, so another great portion size. Both my friend and I agreed it's definitely a spot worth frequenting.

  • THE BEST! I cannot tell you how hard it is to find eggs Benedict that deliver perfectly cooked, but not overdone poached eggs. If you’re looking for the best in presentation, care, and the quality of the food, you have come to the right place! Marina is the manager and was so happy to hear when I called to compliment the chefs. Every time I order from Serendipity they go above and beyond. Yes, I can be frustrating with changing up orders or adding items/sauces that don’t belong, but they checked all my boxes and the presentation was perfect. I always love my hollandaise sauce on the side and they gave me two different versions to choose from. I also asked for salsa on the side (which is not in the description for the meal) but they did not forget to follow the notes. We also ordered the 4 stack of the most fluffy picture perfect pancakes that taste even better than you can imagine. 5 stars all the way for service, quality of food, presentation, and following detailed notes. Everything on the menu is fantastic.

  • Stopped here after finally reaching LA after a long drive, as it was in walking distance of the hotel. Had the lobster roll, which was quite different than what you’d see in Maine or Connecticut. It was hot but also had a bit of vegetable in it. While not traditional, I did enjoy it. Service was good for the most part, though it slowed down at the end which was odd for a very empty place. The art inside was, well, kind of out of place for a restaurant selling comfort food, but that’s not a huge deal. I liked it overall though it wasn’t perfect, and anything that’s comfort food is nice after a long day.

  • If you’re looking for a chill spot with sexy vibes, killer food, and cocktails that don’t break the bank, Serendipity in South Redondo Beach is the ultimate go-to. Let’s start with the cocktails—not only are they deliciously well-crafted, but they’re also super affordable for South Bay standards. A mimosa (or two) while enjoying the ocean breeze? Yes, please. Now, onto the food. The French toast is the perfect balance of crispy edges and soft, sweet indulgence, topped with just the right amount of syrupy goodness. The Greek omelette is packed with fresh veggies and tangy feta, and the mushroom crepes are straight-up decadent, creamy, and oh-so-satisfying. Everything tastes like it was made with care and attention to detail. The vibe? Effortlessly cool and unpretentious. Whether you’re catching up with friends or savoring a quiet solo brunch, the laid-back atmosphere and friendly service make this spot feel like your own secret retreat. If you’re in South Redondo Beach and crave good food, inexpensive drinks, and a chill, welcoming ambiance, Serendipity is where you want to be. Don’t sleep on this spot—it’s your new weekend obsession!

  • I love the vibe and atmosphere of this gem. The staff is extremely helpful and the ambiance made it very memorable. The restaurant's menu is very diverse and appealing to different tastes. Our choices for this trip • Philly Cheese Steaks with Fries Rate: A Philly Cheese made with American Cheese just brings down the stock value. • Tuna Melt with Onion Rings Rate: It was fresh and plentiful. The Onion Rings and Fries stole the show with their unique look and taste!
